A Collection of Calamity Volume 1

Our friends over at The Rock & Roll Circus have just announced the forthcoming release of a FREE compilation CD featuring loads of great bands that rehearse at Leeds' best psychedelic art space. A Collection of Calamity features music from loads of great acts that we've previously put on including Just Handshakes (We're British), The Bacchae, Gary Stewart, The Rosie Taylor Project, The Lazy Darlings, This Many Boyfriends and many many more!

THE ALBUM CAN NOW BE STREAMED HERE.

The CDs will soon be found across Leeds in the hippest hangouts and hotspots. To celebrate its release, the Circus are holding three nights of "chaos, confusion, (and yes) calamity" at the Packhorse on Thursday 11th, Friday 12th & Saturday 13th of February. It's a bargain at £4 on the door for some great local music and a free CD!

There's more info on the gigs over on the Facebook event.

Should be a corker, we'll be down for sure!

Free things for fine gentlemen...

Hello all, Nick here, been keeping an eye on our Bob's wonderful ramblings on here but thought since Ed had joined in i better show my face too.

Not being one to be out done i've come with a bit of a trump card, so to speak. In anticipation of the amazing Victorian English Gentlemens Club's visit next Tuesday (2nd Feb) we have a copy of their critically acclaimed new album "Love on an Oil Rig" on the only format that matters, thick pressed 12" wax to give away to one lucky follower (don't worry, there's a code to download the whole album inside for those not fortunate enough to own a turntable) I'm also gonna chuck in a limited, cool-as-fook, Dead Young Records T-shirt in sexy ass red on black, you'll be the talk of the town!

All you have to do is answer this:

What was the name of the annoyingly repetitive bird VEGC named the first single of this album after?
(Rob's given you a clue below if you carry on reading)

Email your answer to us on Info (at) Deadyoungrecords (dot) co (dot) uk and we'll let the lucky winner know next Monday so you can pick it up from us at the show!

VEGC fun: Here

Now don't say we ain't treatin' you good!

What a Wicked Game We Play

I, Edward, would like to introduce myself to the blog, and what better way to introduce myself than with a rather embarrassing confession. I LOVE Chris Issac's 'Wicked Game'. Now I realise that this might be a problem faced by many discerning music fans, so I would like to share with you my two favourite ways of enjoying the song that we know and love, and still look cool in front of our friends and colleagues. But first, let us enjoy the original for the last time and celebrate it with this exquisite, not at all dated, video.

The Original, Chris Issac

Now wasn't that great! But say goodbye because here are the brilliant covers.

Alternative #1: Giant Drag

Released on the UK version of their fantastic 'Hearts and Unicorns' debut album, this adds a nice grungeyness, whilst still keeping all the best bits from the original. Excuse the video images, it was the best I could do! Listen to more Giant Drag, you will not be disappointed http://www.myspace.com/giantdrag.

Alternative #2: ExLovers

As yet unreleased, I love this version, brilliantly calm. ExLovers are one of my favourite new bands, and it is well worth checking them out http://www.myspace.com/weareexlovers. Their recent 10" ep was fantastic. They are playing the Cockpit on March 20th with support from our pals Just Handshakes (We're British)

Conclusion

Chris Issac can be cool!
