Freshers Week Shows!

Righto, its the end of September - a very special time, not just because its my birthday, but because the students come back to the cities, in our case Leeds. So to get us all in the party spirit we're providing a bumper selection of FREE live music at Oporto...

Monday 27th September

Monday is, as some of you will know, the Gaslight Club. This is Leeds' first NYC Greenwich Village style candlelit Hootenanny hosted by Gary Stewart, free entry, every Monday at Oporto. This week, on the 27th September, welcome Christy Herron, and Geraint Jones to perform alongside our host Gary Stewart. Check out full future listings on the myspace page, and join the facebook group for updates. Also keep an eye out for our Gaslight Club Christmas Special tba at Holy Trinity Church on Boar Lane in Leeds.

Tuesday 28th September

This Tuesday we've got not one but two stateside bands visiting: Truman Peyote & Many Mansions. Two alternative/electronic/psychedelic acts from the Whitehaus Family Record in Boston Massachusetts. Also fantastic local support from Runners who make "21st Century synth-driven krautrock". Their fun video for 'Stay Frosty' is on our last video blog post here. More information, press quotes & links to free downloads on the facebook event.

Wednesday 29th September

We//Are//Animal - Myspace featured act last week - return to Oporto after the release of second single 'Black Magic'. Again the video can be found on our last post here, and the track can be downloaded for free from NME's daily download here. We//Are//Animal's first single '1268' was featured on the last Dead Young release and are a personal favourite of ours so we'll cya down the front. Support comes from The eclectic, eccentric, mother**ckin' Heebie Jeebies & equally mad Moody Gowns. Also of note - super cool poster from fave designer Tom Newell who was recently featured in a book of the best gig posters of the last 50 years: 'The Art Of British Rock'. Info, quotes, links, downloads on the facebook event.

Thursday 30th September

It gives us great pleasure to say this is the first of many shows at Oporto with Communion. Unfortunately Young Rebel Set had to reschedule to Wednesday 24th November, but we are equally excited to have Cattle & Cane, Matt Corby & Killing Fields of Ontario to come play Oporto this Thursday. Its also my birthday so come party with me yo!

If you needed reminding all of the above is FREE. Come say hi to whoever's DJing, running around organizing stuff, or propping up the bar, and enjoy some good music. There'll be more free live music at Oporto every Monday, every Tuesday and a few Wednesdays from now til Christmas and beyond!
Thanks for reading x
